Terms of Booking

Booking Conditions

For single day trips and courses, full payment is due at time of booking. This is non-refundable.

For multiday trips, approximately 50% deposit is required to secure your booking. Your 50% deposit is non-refundable. Please think about purchasing TRIP CANCELATION INSURANCE if you do not want to lose your deposit in case of a cancelation.

Full payment for multiday trips due 4 weeks before trip start date. Once paid, this amount is non-refundable.

We accept no responsibility for any extra costs that may arise from the actions of persons and/or companies supplying goods and/or services to our trips; or from the complication or prolongation of any program for any reason.

If  weather, conditions, a natural event, or actions of other persons and/or companies supplying goods and/or services cause us to be unable to do anything in the mountains the first choice is to re-schedule. If that isn’t possible we will work out a plan that applies to the specific situation, which may include a refund. Cancellation due to weather or conditions is a very rare event.

In case of adverse weather or conditions we reserve the right to change objectives to ensure the safest trip for you. Changing objectives does not trigger a refund.

MOUNTAIN RESCUE INSURANCE

Mountain rescue is free for trips run on Alberta provincial lands.

Mountain rescue is free in National Parks in Canada (Banff, Yoho, Kootenay, Jasper, Glacier/Rogers Pass) if you have purchased a park admission fee when you arrive.

Mountain rescue insurance is recommended for trips in British Columbia (outside National Parks) and for international destinations. You may be required to pay for mountain rescue in these areas.

Cancellations and Refunds

Cancellations by Higher Ground Mountain Guides results in a full refund.

Deposit amounts are non-refundable. Within 4 weeks of trip start full balance is non-refundable.

Weather

We operate in all sorts of weather and mountain conditions. Instructional trips run regardless of the weather and we have areas where we can operate if weather is foul. Private guiding trips will depend on the circumstances, but be prepared to modify trip plans.

Surcharge for BIG routes

For larger objectives or routes with increased hazards, there may be an additional BIG route charge applied to your booking. Mountaineering/Alpine Rock days that exceed 10 hours in length, rock climbs that are longer than 400 meters, or ice climbs graded WI5 or higher are good examples of when this surcharge would apply. You may also need to demonstrate the ability and experience required to your guide. Prep days or training days are not uncommon, and can be arranged to see if you’re ready for your chosen BIG route. Surcharge amount can be $200.00 or more per day. Please contact us if you think your BIG route may fall into this category.

Waiver

A note about Risk and Waivers

All guiding and instructional activities carry risk that can result in injury or death.

All participants will be required to sign a digital waiver prior to making any payment. Please take your time reading through the waiver as it is a legal document and by signing it you are accepting risks and hazards and waving certain legal rights.

The list of hazards and risks on the waiver is not complete or limiting but is intended to provide an idea of the most common risks and hazards you may face.  ‘Higher Ground Mountain Guides Inc.’ follows robust operational policies and procedures to limit hazards and manage risk, but it is impossible to guarantee 100% safety.  By completing the waiver, you agree to share the risks and hazards with us, and agree to waive certain rights, including the right to sue if an accident occurs.

Please both read and sign our digital waiver before sending any payments or deposits to confirm your trip with us.
